I strongly believe in the Strathcona Youth Justice Committee (S.Y.J.C.) I have seen time and time again how youth are given a second chance or opportunity really, to work on righting their wrongs in a positive way.
Youth have a responsibility to atone for their poor choices and give back to their victims, their families and the communities they have hurt. With the guidance of the S.Y.J.C., I have seen youth rebuild their family’s trust, apologize for the hurt they have caused and complete sanctions suitable to their strengths. I follow the motto “Life is all about choices.” The committee shows youth their community wants them to succeed and move forward with their lives to avoid a future career in crime. I am very pleased to make this known and hope that this committee continues with their excellent work.

It is rare for me in (the) 20 years that I have parented so far to find such a genuine “Gemstone” of a program that I never even knew existed before this situation. They asked my son to write a 2000-word

essay about how this has affected his sister…tears filled my eyes as it was the most beautiful piece of paper… covered in words of hope, love and concern

As a volunteer with SYJC not only do I get to work with a supportive group of like minded community members, but I have the opportunity to help impact the lives of Strathcona Youth and give them a second chance.
