Some examples of sanctions:

It was very positive and felt really welcoming. It helped me to be cautious of my actions and taught me to appreciate the options I was given when I didn’t deserve it. To always respect people and their property and to not be as impulsive and think more about my actions.

We are very grateful for this program. It gave our child an opportunity to understand the mistakes they made without negative permanent impacts on their life. I believe my child felt supported by their community. It is amazing to live in a community where adults care this much about its youth and families.

I strongly believe in the Strathcona Youth Justice Committee (SYJC) I have seen time and time again how youth are given a second chance or opportunity really, to work on righting their wrongs in a positive way.
Youth have a responsibility to atone for their poor choices and give back to their victims, their families and the communities they have hurt. With the guidance of the SYJC, I have seen youth rebuild their family’s trust, apologize for the hurt they have caused and complete sanctions suitable to their strengths. I follow the motto “Life is all about choices.” The committee shows youth their community wants them to succeed and move forward with their lives to avoid a future career in crime. I am very pleased to make this known and hope that this committee continues with their excellent work.
