About The SYJC

The SYJC was established in 1994, and has diverted hundreds of youth from the “traditional” criminal justice system. The committee is composed of one Committee Coordinator and up to fifteen volunteers. The SYJC works closely with our local RCMP, Probation and community organizations to ensure the community and youth we serve are supported by our program.

The SYJC’s authorities stem from the Canadian Youth Criminal Justice Act, which enables provincial governments to establish organizations known as “Youth Justice Committees”. These committees are created to support youth who have been charged with a criminal offence, while ensuring the youth is held accountable.
